Biography

Aasif Hakim Mandviwala, known professionally as Aasif Mandvi, was born on March 5, 1966, in Bombay, India. He is an Indian-American actor and comedian who gained prominence as a correspondent on The Daily Show, where he began contributing in 2006 and became a regular correspondent in 2007. Mandvi's family moved to Bradford, England, when he was one year old, and later emigrated to Tampa, Florida, when he was 16. He graduated from the University of South Florida with a degree in Theatre and initially performed at Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World Resort. Mandvi eventually relocated to New York City, where he participated in off-Broadway productions and formed the band Cowboys and Indian. He received an Obie Award for his acclaimed one-man show, Sakina's Restaurant, further establishing his career in the entertainment industry.
