Biography

Alexis Smith was a versatile American actress and dancer, known for her work in film, television, and theater. She was brought to Los Angeles in her infancy and began her artistic career at a young age, winning a dance school scholarship at ten and making her professional debut at thirteen in a production of Carmen. After winning a statewide acting contest while in high school, she studied at Los Angeles City College before being signed by Warner Bros. in 1941. Throughout her career, Smith starred in films alongside notable actors such as Errol Flynn, Cary Grant, and Fredric March. She transitioned to stage productions, achieving acclaim and a Tony Award for her role in the Broadway musical Follies. Smith's final film appearance was in Martin Scorsese's The Age of Innocence in 1993. She passed away from cancer one day after her 72nd birthday.
