Biography
Amanda Peterson, born Phyllis Amanda Peterson on July 8 in Greeley, Colorado, was an American actress known for her role as Cindy Mancini in the 1987 film Can't Buy Me Love. She gained recognition in the late 1980s, having previously appeared in television series such as Father Murphy and Silver Spoons, and had a role in the film Annie (1982). Peterson also starred in Explorers (1985) and appeared in the NBC series Boone during the 1983–1984 season. Following her success in Can't Buy Me Love, she became a teen idol, featured on the covers of popular magazines. After her last film, WindRunner (1994), Peterson stepped away from acting. Her later life included struggles with personal issues and health problems. She died on July 3, 2015, from an accidental drug overdose. Peterson was married twice and had two children.
