Anastacia Lyn Newkirk, known professionally as Anastacia, is an American pop singer born on September 17, 1968. She gained fame with her debut album, Not That Kind, released in 2000, which sold over 31 million records worldwide. Although she achieved significant success in Europe and Oceania, her impact in the United States was limited. Born in Chicago, Illinois, into a showbiz family, Anastacia was exposed to the performing arts from an early age. She moved to New York City as a teenager and attended the Professional Children's School. Her career took off after she showcased her talent on BET's Comic View in 1992 and later participated in MTV's talent show The Cut, where she secured a record deal despite finishing in third place. Anastacia's music is characterized by its deep meanings and catchy pop tunes, appealing to a diverse audience.
