Biography

Aya Sugimoto (杉本 彩, Sugimoto Aya, born July 19, 1968) is a Japanese singer, model, actress, dancer, and author known for her contributions to the entertainment industry. Originating from Kyoto, she gained prominence as a J-Pop artist with hit singles such as "Usagi," "Boys," and "Gorgeous." Sugimoto is also recognized for her role as Queen Beryl in the TV series "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon."

Her public profile increased following a high-profile divorce in 2003, which she characterized as a "sexless divorce," sparking discussions on marriage in Japan. Following this, she became a popular figure on the talk show "Yearnings of the Goddess" and authored a successful book. In 2004, she starred in the film adaptation of "Flower and Snake," and in 2008, she participated in PETA's international nude anti-fur campaign, becoming the first Japanese model to do so.
