Biography

Ben Chaplin, born Benedict John Greenwood on 31 July 1969 in Windsor, England, is a British actor recognized for his distinctive choice in film and theatre roles. He began his acting career after leaving the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, making his television debut in 1990. Chaplin gained attention with a notable role in the TV-movie Bye Bye Baby (1992) and appeared in the acclaimed film The Remains of the Day (1993). His breakthrough came with the film Feast of July (1995) and the BBC series Game-On (1995), leading to his Hollywood debut in The Truth About Cats & Dogs (1996). Throughout his career, Chaplin has prioritized independent and risk-taking projects over mainstream films, earning critical acclaim for roles in works like The Thin Red Line (1998) and Birthday Girl (2001). He made his Broadway debut in 2003 and received a Tony nomination for his performance.
