Biography

Yvette Marie Stevens, known professionally as Chaka Khan, was born on March 23, 1953. She is an American singer celebrated as the "Queen of Funk." Khan's career began in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the funk band Rufus, where she recorded hits such as "Tell Me Something Good," "Sweet Thing," and the platinum-certified "Ain't Nobody." Her solo career includes the number-one R&B hit "I'm Every Woman" and the groundbreaking 1984 cover of Prince's "I Feel for You," which featured a rapper. Over her extensive career, Khan has won ten Grammy Awards and achieved numerous gold and platinum records. She has collaborated with various artists, including Ry Cooder, Ray Charles, and Mary J. Blige. In 2023, she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the Musical Excellence category, recognizing her significant contributions to music.
