Biography

David Suchet, born David Courtney Suchet on May 2, 1946, in Paddington, London, is an acclaimed British actor best known for his portrayal of Agatha Christie's detective Hercule Poirot in numerous television adaptations during the late 1980s and 1990s. He began his acting career with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain in the 1960s before studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Suchet became a prominent member of the Royal Shakespeare Company by the late 1970s, showcasing his versatility in both classical and contemporary roles. His television credits include portrayals of historical and fictional figures, such as Sigmund Freud and Cardinal Wolsey. Suchet has also performed notable stage roles, including Iago in "Othello" and Salieri in "Amadeus," for which he received a Tony nomination. He is married to former actress Sheila Ferris and has two children. His brother is journalist John Suchet.
