Biography

Delphine Seyrig was a prominent stage and film actress and director, born Delphine Claire Belriane Seyrig in Beirut, Lebanon. She studied acting at the Comédie de Saint-Etienne and the Actors Studio in New York City. Seyrig made her film debut in 1958 with "Pull My Daisy" and gained international acclaim for her role in Alain Resnais's "L'Année dernière à Marienbad" (1961). Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, she collaborated with renowned directors such as François Truffaut and Marguerite Duras, earning recognition for her versatility in multiple languages. Seyrig was awarded Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her performance in "Muriel" (1963). An advocate for women's rights, she directed "Sois belle et tais-toi" (1977), highlighting sexism in the film industry. In 1982, she helped establish the Centre Audiovisuel Simone de Beauvoir in Paris. Seyrig passed away in 1990 and is interred at the Cimetière du Montparnasse in Paris.
