Biography

Harry Houdini, born Erik Weisz on March 24, 1874, was a Hungarian-American illusionist and stunt performer renowned for his extraordinary escape acts. He gained prominence in vaudeville in the United States and later in Europe as "Harry Handcuff Houdini," famously challenging police forces to restrain him. Houdini's performances included escapes from chains, ropes, straitjackets submerged underwater, and a sealed milk can. In 1904, he captivated audiences by attempting to escape from specially designed handcuffs, holding their attention for an hour. He was also known for exposing fraudulent spiritualists, serving as President of the Society of American Magicians to maintain professional integrity. Houdini ventured into filmmaking and pursued aviation, aspiring to be the first to fly a plane in Australia. He passed away on October 31, 1926, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of magic and illusion.
