Irvine Welsh, born on 27 September 1958, is a Scottish novelist, playwright, and short story writer. He is best known for his seminal novel Trainspotting, which gained further fame through its critically acclaimed film adaptation. Another notable work is Filth, which was also adapted into a film in 2013 featuring James McAvoy. Welsh's writing is distinguished by its use of a raw Scots dialect and its unflinching portrayal of life in Edinburgh. In addition to novels, he has written plays and screenplays and has directed several short films, contributing to his reputation as a multifaceted figure in contemporary literature and film.
