Katherine Marie Helmond is an American actress and director known for her work in film, theater, and television. She gained prominence for her role as Jessica Tate, the comedic matriarch, in the ABC prime time soap opera sitcom "Soap," which aired from 1977 to 1981. Helmond is also recognized for her portrayal of Mona Robinson, the spirited mother, on "Who's the Boss?" from 1984 to 1992. Additionally, she appeared as Doris Sherman on "Coach" and Lois Whelan on "Everybody Loves Raymond." Over her five-decade career, Helmond made numerous guest appearances on various talk and variety shows, showcasing her versatility as an actress. Throughout her life, she has been married.
