She gained prominence for her role as Tiffany Butcher in the BBC soap opera EastEnders, a character she portrayed from 2008 to 2014, with a temporary return in November 2016. Smith also appeared in the feature film The Other Boleyn Girl in 2008. Standing at 160 cm (5' 3"), she has become a recognized figure in British television.
