Biography

Massimo Troisi was an acclaimed Italian actor, film director, and poet born in San Giorgio a Cremano, Naples. He began his artistic journey as part of a comic trio called La Smorfia, alongside Lello Arena and Enzo De Caro, which gained national popularity through cabaret performances and television appearances. Troisi is best known internationally for his role in the film Il Postino, which earned critical acclaim. His notable works also include Ricomincio da Tre, Scusate il ritardo, Le vie del signore sono finite, and Non ci resta che piangere, a collaboration with Roberto Benigni. Troisi had a close friendship with musician Pino Daniele, contributing lyrics and adapting poetry for his soundtracks. He passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack, attributed to a congenital condition, shortly after the success of Il Postino. Eduardo De Filippo recognized him as a comic actor of the future with deep roots in the past.
