Michelle Kwan

Biography

Michelle Kwan was born on July 7, 1980, in Torrance, California, and is recognized as one of the most accomplished figure skaters in history. The youngest of three children of Chinese immigrants Danny and Estella, Kwan began skating at the age of five after watching her brother play hockey. She started competing at seven and moved to Lake Arrowhead at 11 to pursue her training more seriously. Kwan won her first national championship at the age of 15 and went on to secure numerous titles, including national championships from 1998 to 2005 and World Championships in 1998, 2000, 2001, and 2003. Although she won a silver medal at the 1998 Olympics, Kwan's dominance in the sport is marked by her numerous victories in various competitions throughout her career.
