Biography

The New York Dolls are an American rock band formed in New York City in 1971. Known for their influential role in the glam rock movement, the band combined elements of punk rock, androgyny, and theatricality in their music and stage presence. The original lineup included lead vocalist David Johansen, guitarist Johnny Thunders, bassist Arthur "Killer" Kane, and drummer Jerry Nolan. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1973, is often cited as a seminal work that paved the way for future punk and glam artists. Despite facing challenges, including internal conflicts and changes in the music industry, the New York Dolls have maintained a lasting legacy, reuniting and releasing new material in subsequent years.
