Noah Baumbach

Biography

Noah Baumbach, born September 3, 1969, is an American writer, director, and independent filmmaker known for his distinctive storytelling style. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, as the third of four siblings to novelist and film critic Jonathan Baumbach and Village Voice critic Georgia Brown. Baumbach graduated from Midwood High School in 1987 and earned a BA in English from Vassar College in 1991. He briefly worked at The New Yorker before pursuing a career in filmmaking. Baumbach was married to actress Jennifer Jason Leigh from 2005 until their divorce in 2010. They have one son, Rohmer Emmanuel. He later entered into a romantic and creative partnership with actress and writer Greta Gerwig, beginning in late 2011. Baumbach continues to live and work in the United States.
