Penelope Tree

Biography

Penelope Tree, born in 1950, is a former Anglo-American model renowned for her unique look and influence during the 1960s. She is the daughter of socialite Marietta Peabody Tree and journalist Ronald Tree, and she is a great-granddaughter of American retailer Marshall Field. Tree began her modeling career at age 13, despite initial family objections, and gained prominence after being photographed by notable artists including Diane Arbus and Richard Avedon. Her distinctive appearance and personality earned her acclaim from contemporaries like David Bailey and John Lennon. Tree's modeling career declined in the early 1970s due to skin issues. After relocating to Sydney, Australia, she appeared in the film The Rutles. She has been married twice and has two children, and currently works with Lotus Outreach, a charity focused on education for girls in Cambodia.
