Biography

Peter Riegert is an American actor, director, and screenwriter recognized for his diverse roles in film and television. He is best known for portraying Donald "Boon" Schoenstein in the classic comedy Animal House (1978), and for his performances as oil company executive "Mac" MacIntyre in Local Hero (1983), pickle store owner Sam Posner in Crossing Delancey (1988), and Lt. Mitch Kellaway in The Mask (1994). Riegert also played glove manufacturer Lou Levov in American Pastoral (2016). As a director, he helmed the short film By Courier (2000), earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film. On television, Riegert had notable roles in HBO's The Sopranos, FX's Damages, and the comedy series Dads. He received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for his performance in the HBO film Barbarians at the Gate (1993).
