Rita Gam
Biography
Rita Gam, born on April 2, 1927, is an American actress and documentary filmmaker. She began her career on Broadway and transitioned to television and film, making her film debut in the 1952 noir The Thief, starring Ray Milland. Gam gained recognition for her role as Herodias in the 1961 film King of Kings. She was nominated for a Golden Globe and won the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the 1962 Berlin Film Festival for her performance in No Exit. In 1963, she was a prominent member of The Minnesota Theatre Company during the inaugural season of the Tyrone Guthrie Theatre. Gam later worked in European films and returned to the U.S. for roles in productions like Klute. She was previously married to director Sidney Lumet and publisher Thomas Guinzburg. Gam is of French and Romanian descent and was a bridesmaid at the wedding of her friend Grace Kelly.
