Ryan Murphy, born on November 30, 1965, is an American screenwriter, director, and producer renowned for his work in film and television. He is best known for creating or co-creating popular series such as Popular, Nip/Tuck, Glee, American Horror Story, and The New Normal.

Raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, Murphy grew up in an Irish Catholic family and attended Catholic school before graduating from Warren Central High School. He later studied at Indiana University, Bloomington, where he contributed to the Indiana Daily Student newspaper and participated in the 'Singing Hoosiers' show choir.

Murphy is openly gay and has credited his early experiences, including performing in a choir, as influential to his creative work. He is married and continues to be an influential figure in the entertainment industry.
