Biography

Sharleen Spiteri, born on 7 November 1967 in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, is a British singer-songwriter and the lead vocalist of the band Texas. She is of Maltese, Italian, and Irish descent. Spiteri grew up in Balloch, near Loch Lomond, and attended Vale of Leven Academy. Before her music career, she worked as a hairdresser. Texas rose to fame with their debut single "I Don't Want a Lover" in 1989, and Spiteri is known for her distinctive style, often opting for a casual look. She has a diverse fanbase, including a notable lesbian following, despite identifying as heterosexual. In addition to her work with Texas, Spiteri wrote the title track for the sitcom Ellen and has contributed songs to various television shows. Her latest album, The Movie Songbook, features romantic songs with reimagined lyrics from classic hits.
