Tangerine Dream

Biography

Tangerine Dream is a German electronic music group founded in 1967 by Edgar Froese. Throughout its history, the band has experienced numerous personnel changes, with Froese remaining the sole constant member. Notably, drummer Klaus Schulze was part of an early lineup, while the most recognized trio consisted of Froese, Christopher Franke, and Peter Baumann during the mid-1970s. Johannes Schmoelling later replaced Baumann, leading to another productive era in the early 1980s.

Tangerine Dream played a significant role in the development of krautrock and helped define the Berlin School of electronic music with their "Pink Years" and "Virgin Years" albums. Their influence extends to electronic dance and New Age music, despite the band's disapproval of the latter term. Known for their film soundtracks, which exceed sixty, they have scored notable films such as Sorcerer and Risky Business, as well as the video game Grand Theft Auto V.
