Terence Fisher was a British film director known for his influential work with Hammer Films. Born in Maida Vale, London, he became one of the foremost horror directors of the late 20th century. Fisher was notable for bringing gothic horror to life in full color, incorporating themes of sexual overtones and explicit horror that were groundbreaking for his time. His first major film in this genre was The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), which marked the beginning of Hammer's association with horror and elevated British actors Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee to prominence as leading horror stars. Fisher continued to adapt classic horror narratives throughout his career, directing notable films such as Dracula (1958), The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), and The Mummy (1959).
