William Bruce Davis, born on January 13, 1938, is a Canadian actor and director, renowned for his portrayal of The Smoking Man in the television series The X-Files. In addition to his work in film and television, he established the William Davis Centre for Actors Study, contributing to the education of aspiring actors. Davis is actively involved in public speaking, particularly on topics related to skepticism, and has participated in events organized by the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry. He is also an advocate for climate change action. In 2011, he published his memoir, Where There’s Smoke .... The Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man, offering insights into his life and career. Davis is married and enjoys water-skiing in his leisure time.
