Biography

Caio Fernando Loureiro de Abreu was born on September 12, 1948, in Santiago, Brazil. He moved to Porto Alegre as a young man, where he began publishing short stories. Abreu studied Literature and Dramatic Arts at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul but left to pursue a career in journalism, contributing to several prominent magazines and newspapers in Brazil. During the military dictatorship, he faced persecution and sought refuge with writer Hilda Hilst. Considered one of Brazil's foremost short story writers, his work often transcended conventional themes and language. In 1973, he traveled to Europe, returning to Brazil in 1974. Abreu later moved to Rio de Janeiro and then São Paulo. After being diagnosed with AIDS in 1994, he returned to Porto Alegre, where he passed away on February 25, 1996. His notable works include "Morangos Mofados" and "Onde Andará Dulce Veiga?".
