Tim Maia, born Sebastião Rodrigues Maia on September 28, 1942, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was a prominent musician and composer known for his influential role in Brazilian music. He was a pioneer in introducing soul music to Música Popular Brasileira (MPB) and became one of Brazil's most iconic artists. Maia's musical repertoire spanned various genres, including funk, bossa nova, samba, and romantic ballads, with notable hits like "Me Dê Motivo" and "Descobridor dos Sete Mares." His career began in the late 1950s with the group The Sputniks, and he gained fame with his self-titled debut album in 1970. Maia experienced personal challenges, including struggles with substance abuse and health issues, which affected his later years. He passed away on March 15, 1998, in Niterói, leaving a lasting legacy in Brazilian music that continues to inspire artists today.
