Carrie Brownstein was born on September 27, 1974, in Seattle, Washington, USA. She is a musician and actress best known as a founding member of the influential rock band Sleater-Kinney, which emerged from the riot grrrl movement in the 1990s. Prior to Sleater-Kinney, she was part of the band Excuse 17. In addition to her music career, Brownstein gained recognition for her work in television as the writer, actress, and co-developer of the sketch comedy series Portlandia, which aired on IFC from 2011 to 2018. Her contributions to both music and television have established her as a prominent figure in contemporary culture. Brownstein continues to live and work in the United States.
