Biography

Chantal Goya, born Chantal de Guerre on 10 June 1942 in Saigon, French Indochina, is a French singer and actress. She began her career in the 1960s as a yé-yé girl, performing a blend of girl-group pop and French chanson. Goya gained recognition as a French New Wave actress, notably starring as Madeleine in Jean-Luc Godard's 1966 film Masculin, féminin and in Jean-Daniel Pollet's L'amour c'est gai, l'amour c'est triste. Since 1975, she has focused primarily on children's music, collaborating with her husband, songwriter and composer Jean-Jacques Debout, to create engaging shows for young audiences. Goya's performances often feature themes of dreams and travel, with her character Marie-Rose serving as a nurturing figure reminiscent of iconic characters like those portrayed by Julie Andrews in classic films.
