Darkthrone
Biography
Darkthrone is a Norwegian black metal band formed in 1987, originally under the name Black Death. The band's name was inspired by a Danish zine called Blackthorn and the lyrics of the Celtic Frost song "Jewel Throne." Initially starting as a death metal band, Darkthrone transitioned to black metal in the early 1990s, leading to the creation of their influential album "A Blaze in the Northern Sky." The band has undergone several lineup changes, with members Fenriz and Nocturno Culto being the primary contributors. Their logo was designed by Tomas Lindberg of At the Gates, and Varg Vikernes of Burzum contributed lyrics to the tracks "Transilvanian Hunger" and "Panzerfaust." In addition to their music, Fenriz has been involved in various projects and compilations, promoting the old-school black metal scene. Darkthrone continues to be a significant influence in the black metal genre.
