Biography

Deicide is an American death metal band formed in Tampa, Florida, in 1987. Initially known as "Carnage," the group was founded by drummer Steve Asheim and guitarist brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman. After the addition of bassist and vocalist Glen Benton, the band changed its name to "Amon" and later to Deicide in 1989. They achieved mainstream success with their second album, Legion, released in 1992, and are recognized as the second-best-selling death metal band of the Soundscan Era, following Cannibal Corpse. Since their debut album in 1990, Deicide has released twelve studio albums, one live album, two compilation albums, and two live DVDs. The band's lyrics often explore themes of Satanism, anti-Christianity, and blasphemy, leading to bans and criticism from various religious groups. Their first two albums, Deicide and Legion, were ranked among the best-selling death metal albums of the SoundScan era in 2003.
