Biography

Elizabeth Ann Warren, born on June 22, 1949, is an American academic and politician currently serving as the senior United States Senator from Massachusetts as a member of the Democratic Party. Prior to her Senate career, she was a professor at Harvard Law School, focusing on bankruptcy law and becoming a prominent legal scholar in commercial law. Warren is known for her advocacy in consumer protection, contributing to the establishment of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. She chaired the Congressional Oversight Panel during the 2008 financial crisis and served as a Special Advisor to the Treasury Secretary under President Barack Obama. Warren announced her candidacy for the Senate in September 2011, defeating incumbent Scott Brown in the 2012 election, and became the first female senator from Massachusetts. In the Senate, she serves on several committees, including those related to banking and education.
