Biography

Rashida Harbi Tlaib is a Palestinian American politician and lawyer who has served as the U.S. representative for Michigan's 13th congressional district since 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously represented the 6th and 12th districts in the Michigan House of Representatives. Tlaib gained national attention in 2018 when she won the Democratic nomination for her congressional seat, running unopposed in the general election. She became the first woman of Palestinian descent in Congress and one of the first two Muslim women elected to the House, alongside Ilhan Omar. Tlaib is a member of The Squad, a group of progressive U.S. representatives. Known for her advocacy on issues such as immigration reform and social justice, she has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration and has expressed strong views on U.S.-Israel relations, supporting the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign.
