Tulsi Gabbard
Biography
Tulsi Gabbard, born on April 12, 1981, in American Samoa, is an American politician, activist, and Iraq War veteran. She has served as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district since 2013. Gabbard was the first Samoan American and the first Hindu elected to the United States Congress. Prior to her congressional career, she served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 2002 to 2004, becoming the youngest woman elected to a U.S. state legislature at that time. Gabbard was a Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee until her resignation in 2016 to endorse Senator Bernie Sanders for the presidential nomination. Her political positions include support for abortion rights, opposition to regime change wars, and advocacy for same-sex marriage. Gabbard announced her candidacy for the presidency in 2020. She is married and resides in the United States.
