Biography

Ennio Morricone (born 10 November 1928) was an Italian composer, orchestrator, and conductor renowned for his extensive work in film music. Over his prolific career, he composed for more than 500 motion pictures and television series, spanning various genres and styles. Morricone gained international acclaim for his scores for Italian westerns, particularly those directed by Sergio Leone, including the Dollars Trilogy. His notable works also include music for films like The Mission, Cinema Paradiso, and The Hateful Eight, the latter earning him an Academy Award in 2016. Beyond film, Morricone composed over 100 classical pieces and collaborated with numerous artists. He was associated with directors such as Giuseppe Tornatore and contributed to several Hollywood productions. Morricone's influence on film music is profound, and he sold over 70 million records worldwide, receiving numerous awards, including 3 Grammys and 2 Golden Globes. He passed away on 6 July 2020.
