Biography

George Reeves was an American actor, born in Pasadena, California. He attended Pasadena Junior College and developed skills as an amateur boxer and musician. Reeves began his acting career at the Pasadena Playhouse, where he was discovered and cast as Brent Tarleton in Gone with the Wind (1939). Over the next decade, he worked with major studios such as Warner Bros., Fox, and Paramount, achieving notable success in films like Sangre en Filipinas (1943). His career was interrupted by military service, during which he appeared in the Broadway production "Winged Victory." After the war, Reeves transitioned to television, gaining widespread fame as the lead in Adventures of Superman (1952). Despite his initial success, he struggled with typecasting and career decline. George Reeves died by suicide in 1959, a death that remains surrounded by controversy, largely due to his relationship with Toni Mannix, the wife of an MGM executive.
