Biography
Yorgos Lanthimos, born on September 23, 1973, in Athens, Greece, is a prominent film director known for his distinctive cinematic style. He studied directing at the Stavrakos Film School in Athens and began his career creating dance videos, commercials, and theater plays. His first feature, Kinetta, received critical acclaim at the Toronto and Berlin film festivals. Lanthimos gained international recognition with Dogtooth, which won the "Un Certain Regard" prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2011. His subsequent works include Alps, which won the "Osella for Best Screenplay" at Venice, and The Lobster, nominated for an Academy Award and awarded Best Screenplay at the European Film Awards. His film The Killing of a Sacred Deer also competed at Cannes, winning Best Screenplay. His most recent film, The Favourite, explores the life of British Queen Anne. Lanthimos resides in the United Kingdom and is married.
