Hayao Miyazaki, born on January 5, 1941, in Bunkyō, Tokyo, is a renowned Japanese film director, animator, manga artist, illustrator, producer, and screenwriter. With a career spanning over six decades, he co-founded Studio Ghibli with Isao Takahata, becoming a pivotal figure in the anime industry. Miyazaki began his animation career in 1963 at Toei Animation, eventually directing his first feature film, *Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro*, in 1979. His subsequent film, *Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind*, led to the establishment of Studio Ghibli, where he created acclaimed works such as *Spirited Away*, which won an Academy Award and became a cultural landmark. His films often explore themes of humanity's relationship with nature, technology, and pacifism. Despite initial limited recognition in the West, his works have achieved significant commercial and critical success globally. Miyazaki remains a prominent figure in animation, living in Japan with his spouse.
