Joseph David Keery, born on April 24, 1992, is an American actor and musician recognized for his role as Steve Harrington in the Netflix series Stranger Things. He is also a guitarist for the psychedelic rock band Post Animal. In 2020, Keery portrayed Kurt Kunkle in the film Spree, promoting the movie through a TikTok account under the username kurtsworld, where he shared videos in character. Additionally, he releases solo music under the name Djo. Keery grew up in Newburyport, Massachusetts, as the second oldest of five siblings, with four sisters. He has lived in Chicago, Illinois, and previously dated actress Maika Monroe, with their relationship ending in 2022.
