Biography

Sir John Mills, born Lewis Ernest Watts Mills on February 22, 1908, was an acclaimed English actor known for his extensive career in film and television. He was born at the Watts Naval Training College in North Elmham, Norfolk, England, and grew up in Felixstowe, Suffolk. Mills, whose parents had connections to education and theater, made his acting debut in 1932 with the film "Midshipmaid Gob." Over the course of his career, which spanned more than eight decades, he appeared in over 120 films and television movies, earning significant recognition, including an Academy Award. His notable works include roles in "Great Expectations," "Ryan's Daughter," and "The Family Way." Mills continued to work in the industry until his later years, with performances in "Bright Young Things" (2003) and "The Snow Prince" (2009). He passed away on April 23, 2005, leaving behind a rich legacy in cinema.
