L'Arc-en-Ciel, meaning "The Rainbow" in French and stylized as L'Arc~en~Ciel, is a Japanese rock band formed in 1991 in Osaka. Known for their significant impact on the music scene, the band has sold over 15 million albums and 16 million singles, along with millions of merchandise items, including videos. They gained recognition in 2003 when HMV Japan ranked them 58th on their list of the top 100 Japanese pop musicians. Initially associated with the visual kei movement, L'Arc-en-Ciel distanced themselves from this genre following their major label debut in 1994. The band's diverse musical style and enduring popularity have made them a prominent figure in Japanese rock music.
