Biography
Larry Fine, born Louis Fienberg on October 5, 1902, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a prominent American comedian and violinist best known as a member of The Three Stooges. He began playing the violin as a child for therapeutic reasons after suffering a severe arm injury. Fine's career in entertainment began with amateur theater performances and boxing before he joined Ted Healy's act, eventually replacing Shemp Howard. Alongside Moe Howard and Curly Howard, he starred in numerous films and television shows starting in the 1930s. Fine was married to Mabel and had two children, including actress Phyllis Fine. After suffering a stroke in 1970, he retired from performing. Larry Fine passed away on January 24, 1975, and is interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California. His legacy continues through his contributions to comedy and film.
