Michael Phelps, born June 30, 1985, in Baltimore, Maryland, is a retired American swimmer widely regarded as one of the greatest athletes in Olympic history. He has won a total of 28 Olympic medals, including a record 23 golds, and holds numerous world records in swimming. Phelps began swimming at the age of seven, influenced by his sisters and seeking an outlet for his energy, as he was diagnosed with Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in his youth. By age 10, he had set a national record for his age group, and he qualified for the 2000 Summer Olympics at just 15 years old.
