Mira Nair, born on 15 October 1957, is an Indian American filmmaker known for her impactful storytelling and exploration of Indian society through cinema. Residing in New York City, she founded the production company Mirabai Films, which focuses on creating films for international audiences. Nair gained prominence with her acclaimed works, including Mississippi Masala, The Namesake, and the Golden Lion-winning Monsoon Wedding. Her film Salaam Bombay! received an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, further establishing her reputation in the industry.
