Biography

Peggy Dow, born Margaret Josephine Varnadow on March 18, 1928, in Columbia, Mississippi, was an American actress known for her work in the 1950s. After moving to Louisiana, she attended Louisiana State University and Northwestern State University, focusing on drama. Dow began her career in entertainment through modeling and radio before being signed by Universal-International in 1949. She made her film debut in the thriller "Undertow" and gained recognition for her role as a nurse in the classic comedy "Harvey" (1950). Dow's performances in dramas such as "Bright Victory" (1951) showcased her versatility. However, after a brief career spanning three years, she retired from acting to marry oil industry professional Walter Helmerich in 1951, subsequently relocating to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she raised five sons.
