Biography

Richard Farnsworth was an American stuntman and character actor, originally from Los Angeles. He began his career in the film industry as a teenager, showcasing his equestrian skills in various horse-racing scenes and cavalry charges. Over more than 30 years, he worked as a stuntman, doubling for notable stars such as Roy Rogers and Gary Cooper. Although he occasionally had speaking roles, Farnsworth's acting talent became prominent only after the age of 50. He received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Comes a Horseman (1978), surprising many due to his long-standing presence in the industry. Farnsworth continued to deliver acclaimed performances in films like The Grey Fox (1982) and The Natural (1984). In 1999, he returned to acting after a semi-retirement, earning praise for his role in The Straight Story. He was married and stood 6 feet tall.
