Biography

Eddi-Rue McClanahan (February 21, 1934 – June 3, 2010) was an American actress renowned for her roles in television sitcoms. She gained prominence for portraying Vivian Cavender Harmon on Maude (1972–1978), Aunt Fran Crowley on Mama's Family (1983–1984), and Blanche Devereaux on The Golden Girls (1985–1992) and its spin-off The Golden Palace (1992–1993). McClanahan's portrayal of Blanche Devereaux earned her four Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, culminating in a win in 1987. Additionally, she received three Golden Globe Award nominations for the same role. Beyond television, McClanahan made her Broadway debut in 2005 as Madame Morrible in the musical Wicked. Her contributions to the entertainment industry have left a lasting legacy in American television and theater.
