Biography

Sarah Vaughan was born in Newark, New Jersey, USA. She was the daughter of Asbury "Jake" Vaughan, a carpenter and amateur guitarist, and Ada, a laundress. Vaughan attended Newark's East Side High School before transferring to Arts High. Throughout her life, she was married three times: to Clyde "C.B." Atkins from September 4, 1958, until November 1963, to Marshall Fisher from 1971 until their divorce in 1977, and to Waymond Reed, a trumpet player, from 1978 to 1981. She adopted a daughter, Debra Lois, known as Paris Vaughan, in 1961. Vaughan passed away in Hidden Hills, California, USA. Her legacy includes contributions to music and the arts, reflecting her rich background and personal experiences.
