Biography

Stuart Gordon is an American film director, playwright, and screenwriter known for his contributions to the horror genre. He began his directing career in 1985 after initially pursuing a theater major at the University of Wisconsin, where he directed a controversial adaptation of Peter Pan. Gordon co-founded the Organic Theater in Chicago, which gained recognition for productions such as David Mamet's "Sexual Perversity in Chicago" and the long-running comedy "Bleacher Bums." He gained prominence in the film industry with his adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "Re-Animator," which won a Critics' Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. He continued to adapt Lovecraft's works and directed films like "Dagon" and "Edmond." Gordon also contributed to the horror anthology series "Masters of Horror." Throughout his career, he was known for featuring his wife, Carolyn Purdy-Gordon, in various roles, often portraying her demise in his films.
