Biography

Wanda Hendrix, born Dixie Wanda Hendrix in Jacksonville, Florida, was an American actress recognized for her work in film during the 1940s and early 1950s. Discovered by a talent agent, she signed with Warner Bros. and made her film debut in Confidential Agent (1945). Hendrix gained attention for her roles in Nora Prentiss (1947) and Ride the Pink Horse (1947), the latter of which garnered Oscar nomination discussions. She married actor Audie Murphy in 1949, but their tumultuous relationship ended in divorce within seven months. Hendrix's career declined after their marriage, leading her to retire from acting in 1954 to marry millionaire James L. Stack, Jr. After their divorce in 1958, she attempted a comeback in film and television but found limited success. She married oil executive Steve La Monte in 1969. Wanda Hendrix passed away from double pneumonia in Los Angeles in 1981 at the age of 52. She had no children.
